The Zgolinski 10,000 sf Student Welcome Center enables GRCC to house a one-stop welcome center for the 10,000 new students who apply to the college annually. It is unique: The center provides students with assessment, career counseling and general educational instruction – under one roof. There are less than five such facilities in the State of Washington.
S.M. Stemper Architects designed this $2.3 million expansion/remodel of an existing classroom building. Challenges included maintaining efficient circulation, expanding services while maintaining existing functions, a restricted budget, and integrating the existing building with the new addition. Sustainable features include operable windows, clerestory daylighting and high efficiency HVAC equipment.
